07 Vespasian's 7th Lucky Gemini Roman Legion Shirt by deyganwolf
This little-known Legion was founded in 67 by Servius Galba, then-Governor of Hispania Tarraconensis. Nero's position as Emperor had become untenable, and Galba seized the throne for himself and became Emperor. To avoid looking like a military usurper, he sent the Legion to gaurd the Danube at Pannonia before doing so. After the chaos of the next couple years, Emperor Vespasian reconstituted the Legion, adding soldiers from the disbanded I Germanica and giving it its 'Twin' surname. It served in Germania Superior, where it receieved its additional surname, 'Lucky'. A few years later it was sent back to Spain, based at Leon, where it stayed for centuries. Between 86-89, the Legion was commanded by future-Emperor Marcus Trajanus (Trajan). During the reign of Pius (138-61), the Legion was active in Mauretania against the Mauri. In 235 it was active in the Germanic War of Severus Alexander. The last knowledge of this Legion was that it was still at Leon at the end of the 4th century AD. It's likely that it was defeated and disbanded when the Visigoths and Vandals occupied Spain in 409. Its emblem is not known.
