1616 Drawing of Cusco, Peru Posters
by mb2003aThis drawing of Cusco, Peru was done by Guaman Poma in his 1616 work "El Primer Nueva Corónica y Buen Gobierno." The caption on the top says, in archaic Spanish, "The Great City and Head of the Royal Court of the Twelve Incas, Santiago of Cusco in the Middle of the Kingdon and the Diocese."
In this work, the various parts of Cusco are labeled, including the modern day tourist destination San Blas. At the very bottom of the work are the words "Court of the Inca." The orginal work has suffered very badly due to ink bleeding from one side of the paper to the other, and can be seen at http://img.kb.dk/ha/manus/POMA/poma550/POMA1059.jpg
