Reproduced from a late 17th Century copperplate print from a volume of 101 costume plates created by the Dutch artist Caspar Luyken (1672-1708). The print was originally entitled "Ein Lauffer an den Kayserlichen Hof" (A runner at the Imperial court - This was most likely the Kaiser's court in Vienna, Austria). The engraving comes from the Welt Galleria (World Gallery) published in Austria circa 1700 which depicted a wide range of social classes: royalty, courtesans, merchants, laborers, military officers and soldiers, ladies, gentlemen, and the costumes of many different regions and ethnic groups.
