The woman behind the curtain is an aspiring actress - quite beautiful but from the wrong side of the tracks. The rich flapper can't wait to deliver one of her infamous, scathing put downs to the poor dear, her aim is to embarass her in front of everyone at the soiree. But the mystery lady is the one with the surprise in store - she's just been signed by MGM to star in a new movie with the dashing John Gilbert, who by the way has just broken it off with Greta Garbo. Soon to be a poor mystery lady no more...stardom awaits!

I'll begin: I think it is her "imaginary friend"

like we had when we were kids. This decked-out lady is as lonely as can be, has airs as if she's queen of the sorority, but actually is friendless. So sad.
