Here you will find designer apparel, accessories, custom postage and gifts decorated with insignia of the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) ("The Vermont Brigade”). It is a Vermont National Guard light infantry brigade. It was reorganized from an armored brigade into a light infantry brigade as part of the United States Army's transformation for the 21st century. The brigade commander is taking advantage of the state's (and the Army's only) Mountain Warfare school to transform the brigade into specialized mountain troops. This is a capability the Army had lost after the 10th Mountain Division inactivated after World War II, except for one battalion split between the north-eastern states. Click on the images below to navigate to corresponding galleries. The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 86th Armored Brigade on 1 July 1964. It was redesignated for the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team with the description updated effective 1 September 2006. The insignia was amended to add the mountain tab on 1 November 2007. The shape of the insignia is the distinctive shape used for Brigades. Yellow is for Armor; blue and red refer to the Infantry and Artillery components of the Brigade. The stag’s head is adapted from the Vermont National Guard Crest.
