It's a play on words, illustrating "A stitch in time saves nine." I won't insult your intelligence; you can see the irony. I was thinking of the Middle Ages when I painted it, hence the odd symbols. This clock seems to be somewhere in time and space. We keep trying to patch and repair the fabric of time, but still, time is wearing out. The original painting is acrylic on canvas, and you can see the texture adding to the realism of the piece.
