Aether (pure, fresh air, clear sky, the void) from the classical elements Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Aether. I was certainly thinking about Turner’s watercolours while making these images and also exploring ways around western arts dependence on geometry and the grid. The problem is we all know what the sky looks like so the first step was to find a way to make these images. I was interested in the possibility of creating impressions. Photography is not the ideal medium to create an impression of something as it generally records way to much information. So the main task with this project was to find ways around this through the use and abuse of the camera, for example extremely under exposed photographs corrected in post production was one approach, using homemade filters was another.
