Alpha 1 Antitrypsin deactivates trypsin in the body. Trypsin is used to cut up bacteria during an infection. If you don't have the Antitrypsin you will begin to cut up your own cells, especially the lungs and the liver. Phenotypes SS, SZ and especially ZZ are considered to be deficiencies. Normal Phenotypes are MM with rare normals being CM, FM, MZ Pratt along with a host of other phenotypes. I hope this explains my previous comment.
