Of archeological interest is this altar wedge tomb, on the Mizen peninsula, West Cork, Ireland whose entrance is aligned with Mizen mountain peak. Built from local gray granite it a wedge shaped tomb with several slabs of stone as legs supporting a table of two large flat rocks that give the appearance of a church altar. The low small structure is surrounded in flat rural green countryside near the Atlantic Ocean. Dating from the stone age circa 3000 BC ritual use of the site ended with arrival of christianity but resumed briefly in 18th Century when the tomb was used as an altar by priests forbidden by law to say mass in a church.
