Twenty six were built by General Electric Company, Erie, PA, from 1974-1976. They were rated at 6,000 Horsepower, and their Weight was 183 tons.. The Original cost was $692,000 each They were designed for 120 MPH passenger service on The Northeast Corridor but never ran that fast due to tracking problems. They are no longer in ,service.
