A vintage poster from the days of the old west advertises the Buffalo Bill Wild West show with Annie Oakley as a star sharpshooter. Using a .22 caliber rifle at 90 feet Oakley reputedly could split a playing card edge-on and put five or six more holes in it before it touched the ground.
She was born as Phoebe Ann Mosey (August 13, 1860 – November 3, 1926). She helped her mother get through poverty after her father died by learning how to hunt at age nine. She then sold the hunting game to locals.
