Art Nouveau 001 Poster
by polanriOne of the numerous "Art Nouveau" frontages in Brussels.
Belgium is known to be the cradle of the architectural movement named "Art Nouveau", of which one of the most famous representatives was Victor Horta. Many houses in Brussels but also in Antwerp were created following the rules of Art Nouveau, most of them remains, some have been unfortunately destroyed in the past. They are now nearly all protected by laws and people who have the chance to live in one of these houses receive subventions to keep them clean. Another great example of Art Nouveau is the Parisian " Metropolitain"
The architectural movement Art Nouveau knew its apogee in the Thirties, the point was to create nice houses for a family to live in the cities, the design was inspirated by nature and floral curves. The use was made for the first time of industrial materials such as steel pillars and metallic structures in order to reduce the heavyness of the construction and allow building of great glazed surfaces which let enter the light to the heart of the house.
