A beautiful maiko, an apprentice geisha, releases the sea from a golden vessel. Dolphins spring forth into the churning swells under the bright Moon. This surrealistic watercolor painting is extremely detailed and colorful with its blues and purples with spots of red and yellow. The young woman's silk kimono is painted to match the painting. Her obi is painted to match the starry night sky. Sea birds dance around her in celebration of this evening ritual. This painting is inspired by my love of the ocean as well as Japanese ukiyo-e fine art prints.
