This print or poster features the second Balance painting from 1984. The image uses geometry to depict struggles for harmony, chaos and control between various elements. The exact nature of the elements is open to interpretation. The initial intent was for circles to symbolise parents and a child, each with its own unique orbit or path. The theme works well for co-existing aspects within one personality, organisation or cosmos. What matters is that despite their differences, they are all connected. Heavenly textured dabs of acrylic paint suggest shifting emotional dynamics, much as Futurists depicted mechanical motion and power. Each element is reduced to the purest emotionally expressive form, resulting in a style similar to Kandinsky, a genius of pattern and colour. I love the way that art, especially well crafted and pared down art speaks differently to each of us. In this composition my first thoughts were of the pain and push of birth surrounded by the enveloping posessiveness that is about to bind mother to baby at that stage. Of course, 5 stars!
