17th NY Light Artillery
This photo is usually listed as from June 1863. From Charlie's letter home to wife Cora Benton, the battery was photographed on Sunday, May 3rd, 1863. There is another image (with a cow that moved) similar to this one, and they apparently marched a mile to the south east, and had two shots taken with the unfinished Capitol dome in the background.
