Battle Hymn. Retro Binder. Vintage Poster for Federal Theatre Project presentation of 'Battle Hymn' at the Experimental Theatre, east of Broadway. Poster shows a silhouette image of John Brown. 'Battle Hymn' was a play about John Brown of Harpers Ferry and was written by Michael Blankfort and Michael Gold. John Brown has been called 'the most controversial of all 19th-century Americans'. He practiced and advocated armed insurrection as a means to end all slavery and played a major part in starting the Civil War. He made his name in the unsuccessful raid at Harpers Ferry in 1859. This poster has been beautifully restored and enhanced by us at the Vintage Factory. We have also added a complimentary border around the image which really makes it an eye catching work of art.
