A neo-primitive-styled Grizzly Bear holds a newly captured Salmon. This is the season of the Salmon run, when bears of the Pacific Northwest seek out their richest food source from the streams and rivers. They catch the nutritious Salmon and carry them back into the forest where they consume them. The remains of the fish then provide nutrients for smaller animals and lastly, the forest, thereby making for a healthier eco-system.
Haida and other native peoples like the Coast Salish and even the Inuit revere this cycle and the sacred relationship that exists between Bear and Salmon.
This beautiful design expresses the natural, organic connection and also the spiritual link that is forged every season when the Salmon come upriver to spawn. It is the final feast before Winter arrives and hibernation occurs for these (hopefully) well-fed bears.
