Oil painting by modern Canadian artist and illustrator Oleg Lipchenko.
There are several references to fish in the Bible. I'm particularily interested in an interpreting a prophecy as a fishing. He (Jesus) said to them, “Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people.” 4:19. Here Jesus's followers become Fishers of people - soul catchers. So, Soul is compared to Fish. I didn't want to draw anything religiously related. I'm simply fascinated of the comparison...
The fish has been an important symbol in Christianity since the early Church. The fish symbol is based on the Greek word, ichthus, which means fish, and is an acronym in Greek for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour" (www.bf.org/fish.htm)
As an Illustrator completed graphic illustrations for the limited edition of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" published by Studio Treasure, Toronto (alice.studiotreasure.com ).
