Bill Reid Haida "Ghuuts" Wolf.
The Wolf to the Haidas was an imaginary creature, existing only on the mainland B.C. but never seen on the Haida Gwaii island. Nonetheless, he is an important figure in the crest hierarchy. Troublesome, volatile, ferociously playful in Haida Mythology, he is usually represented in profile, squatting with a long snout with flared nostrils, large & many teeth including canines, prominent ears & a curled-over tail. The wolf was a primary figure in Reid’s family crest.
