Nothing captures the romance of the islands like Talipariti elatum, the beautiful Blue Mahoe. Native to Cuba and Jamaica, the tree was once considered a species of hibiscus because of the shape of its showy tropical flowers. This lovely tree has been valued for centuries for its beauty first of all, but also for its valuable timber used in fine cabinetry and musical instruments. The Blue Mahoe's bark was formerly used to tie bundles of Havana cigars, and so it came to be called "Cuba bark".
The stunning illustration on our shirt first appeared in the incomparable Curtis’s Botanical Magazine in 1861. Reaching over the heart is the phrase "Blue Mahoe: Hearts in Bloom". On the back of the shirt we've included the scientific and popular names for this lovely plant. Please Note! We created this design specifically to suit the natural color of these wonderful organic cotton tee shirts. The design may look quite attractive on other tee shirts and other colors (we've tested some), but please be careful in your selections if you decide to go with a tee shirt other than the naturally-colored organic tee shirt. Some colors just don't like to get within shouting distance of one another.
