The artist, Benjamin Vierling is a Northern California painter and illustrator, specializing in 19th Century painting styles, notably the Nazarenes of Germany, and the late romantics. These Zodiac drawings evoke the 18th Century Symbolists.

I do not follow the kind of rigid procedures that one might study in a classical painting class. I'm afraid that my creative methodology is much too eclectic to truly be able to call myself a traditionalist, but I do distill much of my aesthetic inspiration from the past; from the asceticism of the late middle ages to the repressed decadence of the 19th century. From the excesses of baroque sculpture to the elegant minimalism of japanese woodblock prints. The goal is obviously to reinterpret these techniques to make them relevant for our time.
