-Brice Stadium circa 1935 Postcard
Originally named Carolina Stadium, the structure was built in 1934 with federal funds from the Works Progress Administration and the title was transferred to the University by the city with the understanding that the University assume the remaining debt. The stadium has undergone several renovations and expansions since then, including the addition of the upper decks in 1972 and 1982. The renovations in the 1970s were made possible partly by a gift from the estate of Martha Brice of Sumter. The stadium was dedicated as -Brice Stadium in 1972 as a memorial to Mrs. Brice, her husband, Thomas H. Brice, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. .
