Brook trout are not known as great fighters, but they are an anglers treasure due to their striking colors and distinctive flavor. Most average a healthy 12 inches in length, but they can grow to 20 or more inches and weigh as much as four pounds. Brook trout are not native to western North America but they are now present in the Rocky Mountain West due to intensive stocking efforts in the 1800 and 1900's. The Brook Trout, or Brookie, is a member of the Char family.
