Homage to Kepler - Johannes Kepler's model of the solar system with planetary orbits defined by Platonic Solids nested within spheres, with a colorized tiling of Kepler's original woodcut as the background. The orbits are as follows from innermost to outermost: Mercury-Octahedron-Venus-Icosahedron-Earth-Dodecahedron-Mars-Tetrahedron-Jupiter-Cube-Saturn. Although the orbital ratios are not exact, the elemental symbolism is intriguing and certainly a compelling visual image. If only Kepler had lived to see the work of John Martineau, whose models have significant and astonishing accuracy (typically 99.8 or 99.9%!) Check out the Martineau image gallery for more info on these newer models.
The image was rendered with POV-Ray 3.5. For more infor on sacred geometry, visit http://www.intent.com
