I painted this butterfly while playing around with watercolors one day. This was painted on a piece of watercolor paper measuring about 3" x 2". The background was created by painting different shapes using red, yellow, orange, green, blue and purple. I then put a layer of black on top and quickly pressed a paper towel on top of the wet paint. The result was a colorful, yet worn-out background. I then used white oil paint for the butterfly itself, while letting the background show through the wings.
