Sixth plate daguerreotype; visible image 2 ¾ x 2 ¼ in. Mat: elliptical, sandy finish. Case: Leather; 3 ¾ x 3 ¼ in. Motif: floral. Pad: red silk. Judah (1826-1863), the famed engineer, built California's first passenger railroad, got the Big Four to join him in forming the Central Pacific Railroad, and propsed the route over the High Sierra for the transcontinental railroad.
