This is The Letter H in The Alphabet of Death by Hans Holbein, originally published in Lyons in 1538 as part of Holbein's acclaimed Dance of Death. This series of 41 wood engravings was created around 1526 and published 12 years later. Hans Holbeins version of the Dance of Death or Dance Macabre set a new standard and helped change Death in these artworks into a dispenser of justice, denouncing greediness and the abuse of power.
