Eloise's story.
That is true, Rebecca_Reeder . I believe the same is true of bonobos, chimps, and other great apes. It is only the two or three per cent difference in our DNA that makes us so different from them. Eloise has an interesting story. She was born at the Los Angeles Zoo, I believe, in 1969. But she had a very tough beginning...her mother didn't know to remove the afterbirth from around her face and she went without oxygen, or with very little, for some twenty minutes as zoo caretakers had to take her from her mom and work hard to revive her. She stayed in an incubator for some time but was finally able to survive on her own. Although she did suffer some brain damage, she was able to carry on, sometimes in the company of other orangs at the zoo. She is now about forty years old and lives in comfort around folks who love her. My uncle worked at the zoo at the time she was born and took quite a few photos of her as a baby and while she was in the incubator. The artwork you see is made from a couple of her baby photos. We recently heard from a volunteer that she is fine and happy. I haven't been to the L.A. Zoo in many years but when I do finally go again, I will make it a point to ask about Eloise and see if she will be on display. If not, I think I will ask to see her as I really would like to see for myself how she is doing. She certainly deserves a life of leisure for her golden years. I hope any of you who visit the zoo will also ask about Eloise. I wouldn't mind knowing in the meantime. What a grand old gal she must be now. :)

This is a wonderful illustration of a precious creature.
They are so intelligent--and it is quite eerie to know hat they have fingerprints and blood types... just like we do.
