Commendations to our newly elected President, Mr. Obama, for his bi-partisan efforts to stimulate our faltering economy. However, we hold that Congress should have acted long before now to help the economy recover before it got to this point. Economists have been predicting this economic downfall for quite a while and meanwhile our former President and Congress more or less rested on their laurels while funneling tons of money into a war that we were led into under false pretenses. But the problem goes back much further than that to the creation of NAFTA. It had to be sheer arrogance on the part of our past leaders to assume that we would ever trade equally with other countries when the economic situations of each country differs so widely and the value of other countries monies varied so widely from ours. All our leaders did was to make it cheaper for Corporate America to outsource labor to countries that have lower wage costs ultimately putting America out of work! Now, with the economic stimulus, we are placing a financial burden on future generations that will be difficult for our children and our children's children to overcome. Not that we have much choice at this point!
