Developed in 1939 as an insecticide and used to protect American soldiers from malaria in WWII, DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) is a human-saving wonder chemical capable of defeating malaria. However, in 1962 Rachel Carson (author of "Silent Spring" and opponent of pesticides) promoted claims that children were dying of cancer due to DDT...this was patented false. Nevertheless, unsubstantiated claims linking DDT to cancer gained steam through the media and, in 1972, the EPA banned DDT in a blatant distortion of science. Under the guise of 'childrens health', millions of children in undeveloped countries have unnecessarily died from malaria as a direct result of this EPA action. This is the same Environmental Protection Agency that is now encroaching into the global warming (junk science) debate by declaring that CO2 (carbon dioxide) is harmful to humans (never mind that humans exhale CO2 with each breath) and must be regulated (taxed). The EPA is engaged in political pandering, not real science.
