This is a reproduction of a photograph of African American students at Fisk University, Nashville, TN; the original photo was part of a series of photographs for the 1900 Paris Exposition, compiled by W.E.B. Du Bois who was committed to combating racism. He felt that displaying photographs of affluent young African American men and women challenged the so-called scientific evidence and popular racist caricatures that sought to diminish African American success; taken in 1900.
