Flying Merkel 1913 - Vintage Motorcycle Ad Mousepads
Merkel is a historic American motorcycle brand, also known as Merkel-Light, Flying Merkel and Miami. Merkel: Merkel-Light Co.., Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1909-1915). American company that was founded in 1901 under the name Light. Constructor Joe Merkel came into service in 1909 and began building motorcycles, initially with Thor engines. In the same year he was the sole owner of the mark, then the company name was Merkel-Light. The motors were sold under the brand Flying Merkel. They built several single cylinder and V-twins of 986 cc and all for a 1914 version with rear suspension. In 1911 Joe Merkel moved his business to Middletown, Ohio. The brand was renamed in 1915 in Miami Cycle & Mfg.. Co, although the factory is still standing in Middletown. The machines were then also called Miami. There was also cooperation with The Light Mfg. Co. in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Miami was in 1922 taken over by Indian.
