About this design
Friendship of Salem Postcard
Friendship of Salem, Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Salem, Massachusetts The Friendship of Salem is a replica of a 1797 East Indiaman built by Enos Briggs. This type of armed merchant ship was principally built in England. It was this type of ship that made Salem an American leader in the Far East trade. The original ship was captured after many voyages by the British war ship HMS Rosamund in 1812. This replica was built between 1996-98.
