This is the mousepad version of this previously published photo taken by my husband. This little toddler -named Darren- came to me for consolation during O.F.I. jungle school on the island of Borneo. Darren is one of hundreds of orphans that Orangutan Foundation International has rescued. This was such a tender moment, and looking at this picture always made me think of Gandhi's quote about animals.
100% of the artist's profit on this item is donated to World Wildlife Fund and Orangutan Foundation International.
Awesome quote from Gandhi and ever so true. I love the way you have coincided the quote with the photo. Such a true statement and great reminder to all to treat all animals small and large with love and respect. Beautiful.
Tom I just now found your question. Although orangutans have fingerprints, 3 of the 4 bloodtypes as humans, and share 97% of our DNA, they are actually more peaceful and gentle than humans. The chimpanzees (as cute as they are) which hunt and eat other mammals and can be quite volatile are actually more like humans than the orangutans. Gorillas and orangutans like to munch on greens.
The orangutans are so peaceful and quiet. Very intelligent and clean. Their red hair smells like fresh cedar.
I was also trying to work with design colors that didn't totally clash with the shirt I had on. (There aren't a lot of color choices in the jungle-weight, bug proof clothing. The orangutans have that wonderful natural cedar scent that seems to be their own built-in bug proofing.)
"I love the coloring on this one!!!!! Light purple is very calming!!!! 5*"
