The point down pink triangle is an international symbol of the gay pride and gay rights movement. It was originally a Nazi concentration camp badge sewn on the jackets of male homosexual prisoners. The number of men convicted as homosexuals in concentration camps is estimated to have been greater than 50,000. When the concentration camps were liberated at the end of World War II many of the remaining homosexual prisoners were re-imprisoned by the new government.
