Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 – 1861) was one of the leading Ukiyo-e artists of the late Edo period in 19th century Japan. Our postcard features one of his paintings showing a young woman reading from a book as she sits underneath information about Kambara Station. She is totally engrossed in the words. Beautifully dressed she is wearing a traditional kimono. If you look closely you will see a pattern of running hares on the lapel. Postcards are perfect for framing as small pictures, and are a cheap and chic alternative to expensive poster prints. You can change add a color background on the card to suit.
