Antanas Rimantas Sakalys
was born in 1938. He studied at the faculty of graphic arts in Vilnius Academy of Arts, as well as in the arts department of Moscow Institute of Cinematography. He first exhibited his works in 1968 and since then has taken part in a number of exhibitions held in Lithuania and abroad. Spheres of this work are plates, book illustrations, souvenirs and book-plates.
History of Lithuanian science and culture prevail in A.Sakalys' works. It should be mentioned that in this field he is the most fruitful artist in our country. In the years of Bolshevik ruling over country, when studies of history of Lithuania and history of Lithuanian art and science were not welcomed, moreover, they were banned, the artist suffered bitter mortification.
Exhibitions of works of art by A.Sakalys were seen by European (Paris, Berlin, Krakow, Malborg-Marienburg, Lublin, Moscow) and American (USA, Canada) public. Those of smaller size were spread as souvenirs by numerous tourists all over the world, printed in various publications.
