Hell's Kitchen "Windermere building" 57th & 9th Poster
by markusnycUrban59 Artworks is currently working on 'Project HK 34/59' a series of themed modern artworks based on the Hells Kithen District b/t 34th & 59th streets on the westside of New York City.
About the Image: The Windermere building (1880-81), built two years before the Gramercy is one of the oldest apartment buildings in New York city. It lies on 9th Avenue but like many buildings of this age has its main entrance on the side because of the IRT Ninth Avenue Line elevated railway—New York's first—which dominated ninth avenue until the 1940s. In the 1960's, a young actor named Steve McQueen abandoned his room at the Windermere instead of paying the rent he owed.
