Though it's direct descent cannot be proved, this Legion was most likely formed by Julius Caesar in Gaul in 57 BC, disbanded in 46-45, and later became a creation of Octavian's in 41, under whom it served from 41-30 BC, including at Puteloi, Actium, and in the Balkans. It was later stationed for many years along the Rhine Frontier. It's emblem was the lion. "Gemina" - Twin, perhaps indicating its amalgamation after Actium.
