Jupiter, Saturn And Uranus Per Martineau Poster
by BruceRawlesThis image was inspired by the remarkable work of John Martineau, in "A Little Book of Coincidence". Tiled, mirrored images of Saturns's rings (colorized three different ways) form the background. Three concentric circles, define the orbits of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. The innermost (Jupiter) touches 8 middle points of an octagram. The outermost octagram points define Saturn's orbit. The circle around an equilateral triangle around Saturn defines Uranus. Three concentric circles, define the orbits of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. The innermost (Jupiter's orbit) touches the 8 points of contact of the next-to-outermost points of a stellated octagon (extending the sides of an octagon to the point where the they just meet at obtuse angles). The outermost points (further extending the octagon sides to where they meet at acute angles) define the orbit of Saturn. Circumscribing an equilateral triangle around this circle, then another circle around the triangle defines the orbit of Uranus. Spheres are used to represent the circles for artistic effect.

I think John Martineau's name will (some day, hopefully soon!) be heralded among Kepler, Galileo, Newton and Einstein for the astronomical discoveries he's made. Here's a link to John's book if you haven't seen it (HIGHLY recommended):
