This Japanese color print by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) is titled Kanagawa Oki Nami Ura (The great wave off the shore of Kanagawa). It was printed at around 1826 AD. It depicts a very stormy blue sea, with huge waves (tsunami perhaps), and the Japanese sailors are fighting for their lives, rowing in their canoe type boats. You can see the white foam spray off these big waves. The artist also signed his name in Kanji characters (Japanese writing).
