Modern Urban Streetwear was born out of the sub-cultures in American Metropolis' such as New York and Los Angeles. The movement was generally accepted to have been born out of the surf culture in late 1970's / early 1980's in LA. Local Surf Board designer Shawn Stussy started printing his tag on T-shirts snd sold them on the beaches.----------------------The history of the streetwear is very strongly connected with the beginning of the youth cultures in the 1950's. Each of of the different youth cultures, speak subcultures, stressed its own style. In the form of the dance, in the kind of the clothes, in the way of their expressions. The diversity of the youth cultures increased ever more. Thus the hippies placed its own dress style opposite the mods, rockers and Teddy Boys. The kind of the clothes became now the actual demarcation criterion of its own subculture. Other subcultures, such as the punks, wanted more than only the demarcation. They raised their clothe style for provocation, to the visible protest in relation to the establishment.----------------------Griffin Passant Streetwear is a unique kind of design work, derivative of Japanese style streetwear design like Bathing ape. It incompasses many different levels of popular culture....music, movies, television, art and current events. Though not a follower of trends the design work at Griffin Passant has become common place. Passant like The If (urban wear), Kikwear, Urban 73 and other underground designers have found success on the internet with the new resurgence of post modern punk, the surfer-skaters, gamers and the new urban preppies.----------The Orange Zero a sub-house of GP is a very singular high impact design....large images derivitive of the 1980's pop-culture tee shirts e.g Wham!( Make it Big,Choosee Life) Frankie Relax,Feed the world etc.
*Dashed line denotes design area and will not appear on the actual shirt.
