You can identify them by their saddle patch (the white patch on their body at the base of their dorsal fin and by the size and shape of their dorsal fin. Echo is Slick's youngest -2yrs. old still traveling right by mom's side. Also I took about 10 more images as they surfaced and passed by photographing them as they surfaced and dove so I could verify their saddle patches and fins. Here is an image of Ruffles J-1- notice his white patch and also notice his wavy dorsal fin as an example for you. Each whale's markings are different and the saddle patch is different on each side of each of the it's lots of looking at images and studying and learning them. They are part of a distinct community of killer whales a total number currently of 85 whales, who stay with their families their entire lives. visit my blog as watch some video I took on Sunday of some of them...
