According to a Bureau of Justice Statistics Crime Data Brief, intimate partner violence is primarily a crime against women. In 2001, women accounted for about 85 percent of the victims of intimate partner violence (588,490 total) and men accounted for approximately 15 percent of the victims. Government statistics report that in the year 2000, 33.5% of women murdered were killed by an intimate partner - Less than 4 % of men were killed by their partner. Domestic violence needs to be taken seriously, because it can literally be a matter of life and death. As a domestic violence volunteer, I've met women who were beaten, threatended at gunpint,, raped, kidnapped, and sometimes even murdered by thier partner. Report domestic abuse, support the victims, fight to empower women. All proceeds go to the fight against domestic violence.
