Martin Luther v. Obama
Martin Luther was progressive first. We're not Lutherans. Just so you know.

1. As I recall, the Catholic Church of the 1500's was pretty messed up too, so lets call that even. 2. Actually, what Luther regretted was the killing that went on during the Reformation. He never regretted his interpretation of scripture, 95 theses, and the Protestant Theology he helped develop.
3. Luther's theology was very progressive: elimination of 5 of the 7 sacraments as well as the authority of the pope, marriage of pastors, translating scripture to German, justification through grace not by works (or fees). These were pretty progressive concepts.
4. The shirt is supposed to be funny (and is).
He was so extremely abused by his parents he feared for his life and he hid himself in the priesthood. He was unable to view God as merciful and forgiving because of his extreme abuse from his own Father. Hence his views on a relationship with God the Father.
He wasn't progressive. He was messed up.
