Designer Garrett Burke’s creative fingerprints are visible across popular culture. One of his ideas even circulates as half a billion pieces of American history. Topping 8,300+ entries, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger selected Garrett’s coin concept honoring John Muir in Yosemite Valley to be California’s 2005 commemorative state quarter, part of the United States Mint’s 50 State Quarters® series collected by 140 million people. Profiled in national media and a noted public speaker, Garrett has appeared before libraries, schools, coin clubs and civic groups to present an entertaining and informative look at everyday coins. Audiences encouraged him to create a book about his family’s unique state quarter journey. Garrett has answered the challenge by publishing “Quarterama: Ideas & Designs of America’s State Quarters.” Before developing a tiny piece of Americana, Garrett crafted movie posters, art, logos, and packaging for Hollywood brands including Star Wars, James Bond, Harry Potter, Nickelodeon, and Dr. Seuss. His ideas have been recognized by the Library of Congress, Graphis, Spectrum, and Print design annuals, American Corporate Identity, numerous design books, and the Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards. A recipient of the John Muir Association’s annual “John Muir Conservation Award,” Garrett designed commemorative medals for the American Numismatic Association’s 2005 and 2009 World’s Fair of Money and received their prestigious “Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture.” He wrote the foreword to numismatic historian Q. David Bowers’ authoritative “A Guide Book of Washington and State Quarters” and was featured on the PBS-TV interview series “Between The Lines,” to discuss America’s favorite pocket change. Raised in Philadelphia, Garrett is an honors graduate of New York's Pratt Institute School of Art & Design and moved to Los Angeles in 1985. Besides creating spiffy yearbooks for his college graduating class and daughter’s preschool, Quarterama is Garrett’s first serious indie publishing effort.
