Quarter plate daguerreotype; visible image 2 ⅞ x 3 ⅞ in. Preserver: decorative. Pad: embossed red velvet. Case: leather; 4 ¾ x 3 ¾ in. Motif: geometric. Starkweather made this view of four miners standing near a sluice in front of a log cabin; one miner is holding a pitch fork and another is holding a shovel.
