Quarter plate daguerreotype; visible image 2 ⅞ x 3 ⅞ in. Preserver: decorative. Pad: embossed red velvet. Case: leather; 4 ¾ x 3 ¾ in. Motif: geometric. Nevada City was one of the most famous towns in the northern mines. This quarter plate provides a view of one-story, wooden buildings along a creek. The words "Empire" are found on one building at the right and "E. Cook & Co." on the building in the center. A church is shown at the upper left with trees and hill in the distance.
