First off the reason for my name for this site and any site, " NewfieDish" , my man's nickname is Beef, smile!! Beef & Gail = NewfieDish.
I am orginally from Newfoundland, born and raised. The fishery shut down in 1992 in Newfoundland, many jobs lost including mine. My income was totally dependent on the fishery and then it was gone. I never had any choice but up root my family and move, in order for me to support them. We moved to Alberta in 1992 for 10 months, I ended up working as a part-time cook for $6.00 an hour in an hotel, this wasn't, in my mind making it! We heard about Port Hardy, a small fishing community, the most northern town on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. We (my man & I) took the kids to visit our friends in Chilliwack for an Easter break, while there, our friends took care of the kids while we went to Port Hardy to check the town and the jobs. To be continued..... |
