OMNIPOTENCE T SHIRT
ERRATA: After a lengthy session with my friend Eric, we decided the proper English translation of the ancient Greek (http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Jdg&c=1&v=19&t=LXX#19) was something like: Andrew’s Translation: The people of Judah were godly. They were able to obliterate the hill folk. But the valley folk had iron chariots. One of Judah’s men, Rechab, doubted the Lord. Because of this, they lost. Eric’s Translation: And the men of Judah inherited the hill easily. The residents of the valley had iron chariots and were too strong for the Lord’s men to conquer for Rechab resisted the Lord. First discrepancy: whether God or Judah's army was unable to conquer the valley. Intuitively, and with a proper transition it is clearly the army's fault. Second discrepancy: The real contention is: How could the army lose since "God was with them" and "With God, anything is possible"? God does not support Judah's army unconditionally. In order to enjoy that support, the people must also be with God. Third discrepancy: Omission. It turns out a single soldier resisted God: Rechab. As a result, the whole army lost. To non-believers this may seem silly, but at least the passage is consistent. Atheists such as myself and Christians such as Eric can relax now that the contradiction is debunked. This passage is consistent with the rest of the Bible, and the theme oft repeated, as anyone who has ever fallen underwater can attest.
